I usually arrive early and photograph all the orchid displays before the event begins.
Below are some of the fantastic orchid displays. The one above won an award.

The Orchid Sale

It's about 9:15 in the morning, and I have less than an hour to move around and photograph
the orchids that will be for sale before the doors open at 10 am and the crowd takes over.

All the displays are lush and beautiful first thing in the morning...
and the sweet aroma of orchids takes of the room

These displays will be filled and refilled during this two day event

Actual orchid flowers are used to make this jewelry

The orchid boutique sells arrangements of some beautiful cut orchids

A few of the happy shoppers at the Venice Orchid Society Show and Sale

The sales floor is open, but the display area does not open until 11:00 am...
So now I have about an hour to do all my professional close-up
photography of the displays before the gates open.

As I take each of these portraits, I give them by business card and tell them
to stop by this website to see all the pictures. Thank you all for participating :)

This woman won the first door prize which is given out each hour

This woman took my picture with her phone as I walked by... so I quickly took hers...

On With The Show !

At 11:00 they open the display area to the public and the room quickly fills.
But before it does... I've had time to capture all the beauty I could find.
Below are just a few of my favorites. Enjoy.

The judges have only a few more minutes to choose their favorites before the gates open

The judging continues most of the morning

I can't say which is prettier. The orchid or the girl photographing it :)

The room gets too crowded for me to shoot so I find some high ground for this aerial shot.

Meanwhile the judges are in the back room... measuring and counting the blooms
of the potential American Orchid Society Winners. That's why I'm here... to take
the pictures for the American Orchid Society catalog and/or magazine if one of
these plants wins an award.

At the end of the day, I was just leaving when this woman walks in with a platter of cookies and hands me a bag with a very nice slice of home-made apple pie which she said did not contain any sugar.

" Thank you... The cookies and the pie were wonderful " :)
