A Day Trip
to
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary
Since I've already photographed most of the parks and events in
Engllewood, I've decided to expand my horizons and take some "Day Trips"
to places within a days drive from Englewood. If you have any suggestions
on what you would like to see... please just drop me a note and I'll add
it to my list. Contact

The main boardwalk is about 2 miles long and takes about 2 hours
to walk at a leisurely pace... but it has built in shortcut for those that
can't make the full trip.
The entire walk is easy on this beautifully designed wooden walkway
that is just a few feet above the ground in the dry season and just above
the water during the wet season
Ready to go? Be sure to pack something to drink... but no
food is allowed on the walk :(
The boardwalk crosses over this divide where the slight decline
in elevation
changes the landscape from pines to grass to cypress forest.
Once across the divide the swamp starts to show its natural beauty...
and I get to take and share some really great pictures
Enjoy the tour :)
My friend Marie went with me :)
Some of their landmark trees are marked along the way...
measuring about 100 ft tall and 22 feet around.
This one is believed to be over 500 years old !
I had never seen one of these butterflies before... and was very
happy to capture this shot.
It is called a Ruddy Daggerwing.
Many small birds are zooming through the trees as you walk
This dead end spur off the main trail leads to an overlook
Another landmark tree - 89 feet tall

This spotting scope was set up by the park system and focused on
the nest of the water bird below called an Anhinga which swims underwater
to catch fish and then must climb up and sit on a branch to dry it's wings
before it can fly. They are very good climbers :)
The park has volunteers that tour the walkway to answer questions

Back to the Blair Audubon Center where you can find food and drink
and a very well stocked gift shop with some very unique gifts.
I sorta liked all the owls :)
