Guided Walk Schedule


Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center and the

Charlotte County Natural Resource Department will be 
conducting the following free guided walks in 

March 2013

Unless noted, all begin at 9:00 AM.  For directions or further information, call Cedar Point Environmental Park at 941-475-0769 
 

Saturday March 2                             Help clean up the parks at the Great American Clean-up.  Meet at Cedar Point Environmental Park.  Trash bags, gloves, data sheet & light refreshment provided.
 
 

Sunday March 3                                Join Bob Cooper on a guided walk through the old growth pine flatwoods and mangrove fringe of 125-acre Oyster Creek Regional Park (“Ann Dever Regional Park”) in Englewood. Meet at the San Casa entrance.
 
 

Thursday March 7                            Join CHEC on a guided walk through the scrub and pine flatwoods of 217-acre Amberjack Environmental Park in Cape Haze. Meet in the parking lot at the end of Gasparilla Pines Blvd.
 
 

Saturday March 9                             Join CHEC on a guided walk through Buck Creek Preserve.  This 80-acre preserve is comprised of scrubby and mesic flatwoods that transition into coastal hammock and mangrove swamp along Buck Creek. Meet at the parking lot.
 
 

Sunday March 10                             Join John Phillips on a guided walk through Tippecanoe II Mitigation Preserve in Port Charlotte. This 150 acre preserve is home to several families of the threatened Florida scrub jay. Meet in the parking lot.
 
 

Tuesday March 12                           Join Margaret Dunson on a birding walk through Amberjack Environmental Park in Englewood.  Meet at the entrance at 8:00 am.
 
 

Wednesday March 13                    Get wild & wet!  Join Bobbi Rodgers at Cedar Point Park on a Seagrass Adventure Wading Trip into Lemon Bay in search of marine organisms such as sea horse, crabs and juvenile fish.  Registration required
 
 

Thursday March 14                          Join CHEC on a guided walk through Buck Creek Preserve.  This 80-acre preserve is comprised of scrubby and mesic flatwoods that transition into coastal hammock and mangrove swamp along Buck Creek. Meet at the parking lot.
 
 

Saturday March 16                          Join Dave Clayton and/or Bob Cooper on a “South of the Border” guided walk in Englewood from Wildflower Preserve to Amberjack Environmental Park and back.  Meet at the Wildflower parking lot on Gasparilla Pines Blvd.
 
 

Sunday March 17                             Join CHEC on a guided walk through 308-acre Tippecanoe Environmental Park This Charlotte County park includes habitats such as scrub, pine flatwoods, marsh and wetlands.  Meet behind the Charlotte County Sports Park.
 
 

Wednesday March 20                    Join CHEC on a guided walk through the scrub and pine flatwoods of 217-acre Amberjack Environmental Park in Cape Haze. Meet in the parking lot at the end of Gasparilla Pines Blvd.
 
 

Friday March 22                                Join Bruce Dayton on a guided walk through the old growth pine flatwoods and mangrove fringe of 125-acre Oyster Creek Regional Park (“Ann Dever Regional Park”) in Englewood. Meet at the San Casa entrance

Wednesday March 27           Join CHEC & the Mangrove Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society for 2 lectures at Cedar Point Environmental Park:

"Moth Madness" by Jean Evoy discussion on various moth species native to central and southwest Florida including descriptions, habitat requirements and life cycles.

"Top Ten Reasons to Go Native" by Jamie Reynolds includes tips on water conservation, providing butterfly and bird habitat, and saving time and money. 1 – 3 pm
 
 

Saturday March 31                          Join CHEC on a Holiday guided walk through Cedar Point Environmental Park in Englewood.  Situated on Lemon Bay, this 115-acre park is home to nesting bald eagles as well as other flora and fauna.  Meet at the Visitor Center.

Environmental Center (CHEC), a non-profit organization serving the community with

environmental education, recreation, research and preservation.  Funding for the hikes is

provided by the Manasota and Peace River Basin Boards of the Southwest Florida Water
